Teaching the French language to single mothers and / or mothers who need help
Our project Language Learning Mothers "LLM" began in September 2020 and was made possible thanks to the cooperation with La Maison des Femmes/ Het Huis van de Vrouw and the support from the Coopérative CERA and the Fondation Roi Baudouin through the Celina Ramos funds.
The idea behind the project was to give French classes to isolated mothers and/or mothers who were in need of help. During the class hours, RANA volunteers looked after their children by playing games or organising activities adapted to their age.
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the classes had to go online half-way through the course but our amazing teacher Ilham quickly adapted and continued the classes!
Even online, the project has been a great success with the participants and they have been able to create an encouraging learning environment and improve their French!
At RANA, we realised that this project responded to the concrete needs of women who want to integrate better into the socio-economic fabric of Brussels while taking care of their children. For this reason, LLM is now entering into its third cycle, beginning on 20 September 2021.
In February to June 2021, the second cycle of LLM was carried out online with 8 incredible participants. During these classes, despite being online, a dynamic sense of community was created, not only to improve their French, but also share stories and recipes from their countries.
That's why we are continuing them with an LLM2!
LLM2 starts on 1st February.
